Lydia’s first birthday tomorrow, and I have been planning a quiet celebration here in Cornwall.
James has been carefully saving a few precious days of holiday and so he has managed to book tomorrow & Friday off work, and is travelling down here after work tonight! I’m so pleased, as I would have been very sad if Lydia didn’t get a hug off her Daddy on her birthday – she is such a Daddy’s girl and she misses him loads.
My Dad has promised to cook a roast dinner for her birthday meal in the evening – yum! We will do presents before dinner, and other than that our daily routine will continue as normal. Playgroup in the morning means I will be baking up a storm today – I am planning to do normal sized fairy cakes for the adults, and miniature ones for the children.
Georgie is excited that Lydia’s birthday is soon, and spent a happy half hour yesterday making her a card. I cut out a “Happy Birthday” from my last scrap of wrapping paper, and then set her loose with stickers! I wanted something quite quick and mess free as I knew Lydia was due to wake up any minute, Georgie was tired and grumpy, and our window of opportunity was short!
Georgie even tried to trace “Lydia” on the front of the card, bless her.

On the inside of the card Georgie stuck stickers to represent various people; Grandma & Grandad, Homily (the dog), James & myself… a pair of blonde sisters were announced as being Lydia and Georgie, and quite amusingly one of my friends who Georgie adores was included in the mix!
I wrapped up Lydia’s little pile of presents yesterday, so she has a few bits & pieces to unwrap from us. We haven’t spent much money on her gifts, just some second hand toys from a recent toy sale we attended, and a couple of bargains from the Morrisons baby event. There isn’t really much that Lydia needs, as we kept all of Georgie’s baby toys for her to play with.
I have bought a few little bits to make the day a bit more special – we have a Winnie the Pooh table cover, with matching paper plates for the kids and napkins for us all to use. I found some Winnie the Pooh first birthday balloons too, for Lydia to play with.
All in all, Lydia’s first birthday celebrations are going to be a relaxed affair. This is definitely a good thing, as she is currently on antibiotics to treat an upper respiratory infection and hasn’t been entirely herself in the last week. A big shindig would have been far too much for her.
